HASD Music Curriculum
Our students have many opportunities from Pre-K through 12th grade to take music each year.
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL:
- Our Pre-K through 5th grade students take a General Music course once every five day cycle.
- Curricula includes Game Plan and First Steps in Music, as well as Recorder Karate supplements.
- Students are eligible to study instrumental music in our band program beginning in 4th grade.
- Students may choose from flute, oboe, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, french horn, trombone, baritone, or percussion.
- Percussion students are required to learn bells in addition to drums.
- Students receive a 30 minute pull-out lesson once every five day cycle.
- Students also have a 30 minute full band class once per cycle.
- The bands perform two concerts per year: one in December and one in May.
- Students who wish to play in band in middle and high school must complete one year of band prior to middle school.
- Chorus is also an option for our fifth grade students.
- Students in chorus participate in a weekly, pull-out choir rehearsal.
- Choral students perform in two concerts annually: one in December and one in May.
- Students who wish to join chorus in middle school and high school must complete one year of chorus prior to middle school.
- Students are able to participate in both band and chorus in fifth grade!
MIDDLE SCHOOL:
- Students in 6th and 7th grades are required to take a music class twice per six day cycle.
- Students in 8th grade may elect to take music as their elective.
- Options for all three grades include:
- Band
- Chorus
- General Music
- The Band and Chorus ensembles meet in small groups during class time, and rehearse as an ensemble during activity period twice per six day cycle.
- Students interested in participating in both must schedule Band as their elective and may participate in Chorus during activity period.
HIGH SCHOOL:
- Performing Ensembles Available:

- Spartan Chorale (Concert Choir)
- Jazz Band
- Marching Band
- Show Choir
- Courses in the performing arts as well as non-performing arts available.
