Consider your summer as an opportunity to invest in yourself and your own future. Summer programs are designed to help you develop skills essential to specific industries or job types. Your summer can be the perfect opportunity to expand your knowledge outside of the classroom. The hands-on real-world experiences that you encounter during a summer program enable you to develop your potential and make key contacts for future networking. You an use a summer opportunity to determine your interest level in certain career fields, get feedback from professionals regarding your strengths and weaknesses, and to further your education and expand your resume. With summer opportunities, you can do all this in the time you already have off from school!

The Westmoreland County Chamber of Commerce, working in partnership with the Westmoreland-Fayette Workforce Investment Board and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, is excited to announce the 2023 Leadership Westmoreland Youth Academy.
The experience will be a five-day leadership development program offered June 19-23, from 8:00 am-3:30 pm. It is designed to introduce students to leadership concepts that provide interaction with local business, government and community leaders. Participants should be sophomores, juniors and seniors in September 2023 with a GPA of at least 2.5. While some time will be spent in a classroom setting at the Westmoreland Conservation District, located at 218 Donohoe Road in Greensburg, much of the week will be spent observing leadership in action at various county locations throughout our region.
To apply, students must complete the application and submit the requested documents by April 28. Applicants who have successfully completed the application and provided documents are accepted on a first come, first served basis. The program is financially supported by the Commonwealth of PA and the Westmoreland-Fayette Workforce Investment Board. The program will be facilitated by the Westmoreland County Chamber of Commerce Education Foundation (501c3.), which includes an academy program fee of $175. Keystone Boys State (KBS) is a week-long summer experience organized by the American Legion that focuses on civics and leadership development. The PA State Police (PSP) in collaboration with the PA National Guard and American Legion are seeking applicants for its annual youth camp. The "Elmer Hafer-American Legion-Sate Police-National Guard Youth Camp" will be held June 11-17, 2023 at Messiah University in Mechanicsburg, Cumberland County. The six-day summer leadership camp is designed for teens, ages 15 to 17, interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement or the military.
